Turkey’s carpet exports totaled $750.4 million registering a rise of 9.1 percent during the first four months of 2014, compared to the same period last year, as per the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters’ Association (ITKIB).
According to the ITKIB data, Turkey exported carpets worth $750.4 million during January to April 2014, whereas the country exported carpets amounting to $687.5 million, during the same period last year.
Carpet exports from the country accounted for 1.40 percent of the overall exports made from Turkey during the first four months of the current year.
Sub-sector wise, the highest exports were made from the machine-made carpets sector with exports totaling $712.6 million, registering a rise of 9.7 percent year-on-year, whereas, hand-woven carpet exports totaled $37.75 million, recording a fall of 0.8 percent year-on-year.
Saudi Arabia was the main destination for carpet exports from the country during the first four months of 2014, with exports amounting to $133.3 million, followed by the US with $83.6 million, Libya with $64.1 million, Germany with $46.3 million, Iraq with $29.4 million and the UK with $26.4 million.
The European Union (EU) accounted for 22.7 percent of the overall carpet exports made Turkey during January-April 2014.
